Another day has dawned on us and the sun is really bright from where I find myself.
We are today going to talk about our presidents. The presidents Ghana have have had so far and the secondary schools they are attended.
The question which follows is; has your school ever produced a president for the nation? When it comes to the tertiary level, it is only the University of Ghana, Legon, which has produced more presidents for the country.
The likes of the KNUSTs and UCC are yet to produce a president for the country. But our attention today is at the secondary level and it appears one particular school tops it all when it comes to the number of presidents they’ve produced for the country.
-Dr. Kwame Nkrumah
The man of the millennium, the first president of Ghana, the best president Ghana and Africa has seen so far is an alumnus of Achimota College.
After his elementary school at Roman Catholic at Half Assin, he went on furthered his secondary education at Achimota College in 1930.
And the secondary school which produced the first president of Ghana is Achimota College.
-Lt. General Joseph Arthur Ankrah
He spent 3 years in office after been part of the coup d’etat which disposed off Kwame Nkrumah in 1966.
It is believed he attended Accra Academy and was very instrumental in the school’s team.
-Brigadier Akwasi Afrifa
He attended Adisadel College and he is one of those presidents who can be best be described as the president who came to power through the backdoor.
He came to power through a coup detat and it appears he is one of the cause of the woes of the country.
-Edward Akufo-Addo
He attended Achimota College as well just like Nkrumah and graduated in the year 1929.
He ruled the country for two years and was one of the founding fathers of the UGCC-the first political party in the country.
-General Ignatius Kutu Achaempong
Arguably, one of the best presidents the country has ever seen, He ruled the country for close to seven years and his Operation Feed Yourself is one of te most fruitful programmes the country has ever seen
It’s believed he attended Central College of Commerce at Agona Swedru. He is also one president whom I believe won’t be forgotten easily by most Ghanaian women.
-Jerry John Rawlings
The first John of the Fourth Republic and the longest-serving president the country has seen attended Achimota College as well.
He completed Achimota College in the year 1967 and went on to continue at Teshie Military School.
-John Agyekum Kufuor
The Gentle Jack spent 8 years in power and is a product of Prempeh College where he completed in 1958.
-Professor John Evans Fiifi Ata Mills
The ASOMDWE-HENE president is also an alumus of Achimota College. His death whiles in power really brought lots of sadness to all Ghanaians as the soft-spoken gave up the ghost in 2012.
-John Dramani Mahama
The former president of Ghana is also a product of Achimota College.
For those wondering which of the secondary schools our current president attended in the country, I’m sorry to tell you that our current president; Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo didn’t attend any secondary school in Ghana.
He and Dr. Hilla Liman who was the president of the Republic in the year 1981 all had their secondary education outside the country.
We all can see Achimota College is one school which has produced lots of presidents for the country.
Adisco and Accra Aca are one of the few schools which also hold bragging rights as well when it comes to secondary schools in the country which have produced presidents for the country.
Was your school on the list? Mine never came close but we do hope to produce the best president with time.
